In comparing 7/6 7/4 with 7/5(2), I ignore the roll 65 in my analysis. Unless Blue clears the 6pt by rolling doublets, it is a blotting number Blue will have to face in either variation, when he gets down to 2 checkers on the 6pt. Tim suggests as much in his post. I believe it is the 44 and 55, both which force a blot after 7/5(2), that make the difference.
