DMP, technical decision

Actually I'm surprised to see that The Glossary definition refers only to empty points as gaps. I was referring mostly, of course, as you saw, to gaps in the placement of spares, not to empty points. I could have called them "inner gaps" or "interior gaps," entries for which the glossary lacks. E.g.,
Taper-Mike at Robertie's 2+2 column in 2009: "An inner gap occurs when one of Black's home board points has no spare checkers, and yet is surrounded on both sides by points that do. As the bear off proceeds, an inner gap will often force Black into an awkward distribution."
Or Matt Cohn-Geier in these pages in 2009: [6-1 to play with X24333 distribution] "5/4 still best" [leaves X24422] "even though 3/2 can be played which doesn't leave an inner gap" [leaves X33322 -- 4/3 would leave the dreaded "inner gap" on the 4 point, X25232].
Or Matt again at 2+2 in 2009: "You basically don't want an interior gap (which I'm sure Robertie will stress as it is covered many times in his writings)" ...
So, "inner gap" or "interior gap" sounds like conventional Kleinman or Robertie jargon. I've not my books with me to check.
