White is XG Roller++

score: 1
pip: 150
15 point match
pip: 148
score: 1

Blue is BGO Readers
XGID=-ba-B-DAB---bD--Ac-d--a-bA:0:0:1:32:1:1:0:15:10
Blue to play 32

Hitting is obvious, and thereafter, there are many ways to play the deuce.

  • U (Up) = bar/22*/20
    Too many return shots: 1 3 4 5 6 7.
  • R (Run) = bar/22* 16/14
    Return shots: 2 5 6 7.
    Little is gained by playing to the 14pt. White must break his midpoint to hit in his outer board no matter where Blue leave his blot. By staying back on the 16pt, Black keeps a good 6 as a return shot of his own.
  • S (Split) = bar/22* 13/11
    Return shots: 4 5 6 7.
    This play is not any riskier than R (Run), but it gives an extra builder to hit or cover on the bar point. The downside here is that Blue must open up a fourth blot.
  • C (Cross) = bar/22* 6/4
    Return shots: 3 4 5.
    This play is not as wild as it seems. Most of White's 6s play awkwardly. The problem here is not so much slotting the 5pt, but rather how to cover next turn if missed.
  • E (Each) = bar/22* 6/4
    Return shots: 4 5 6 7
    In this very dynamic position, Blue needs to keep all his checkers active. Putting a dilly builder on the 4pt is unlikely to be best.

S (Split) seems to create the flexible structure Blue needs in this very fluid situation, but my confidence here is only medium.

S (Split) = bar/22* 13/11
