What I wondered is what in the shit is the American Doubles Championship and who enters it? Just the first 16 chumps (8 teams) to come up with the cash?
This is the tournament formerly known as the Pro Am popular with former chess players, current backgammoneers, future poker players, and a$$orted luminaries. Not sure when the Pro Am started, but in 1998 it was in Turnberry Isle, Florida and moved to Las Vegas the following year. In 2006 it changed names to "World Doubles Backgammon Championship." I think the entry fee last year was $10,000 as it had been for several years. But apparently this year Howard Markowitz is running an "American Doubles Championship" in Las Vegas in conjunction with the Las Vegas Open next month with a $5,000 entry fee, and bringing tournament backgammon back to New Yawk City in January 2008 with a "New York Metropolitan Open" ($400 entry) and a "World Doubles Championship" ($7,000 entry).
