This variant looks really nice, without having done any actual playing it seems you have to work more to keep contact between your "mid" and the forward checkers - both because it is farther away, and it is harder to play down. Also the added contact between the "mid points" makes it harder to release it after having successfully run the back checkers. Finally, it is a little more awkward to build the board, the 5 point is a little cramped, and while you probably still should make the inside points with 41 and probably 52, you really want the 8 point checkers to make the 6 point instead.

Definitely worth more than just a try - I'd be happy to enter a jackpot playing this variant.
