In general, this is great advice, but if you play backgammon, sometimes you need to ignore your mother's advice on this subject. Not hard at all to figure out which play I made and not hard at all to figure out what Kenji rolled.
XG claims it is 100% certain that pick-and-lick is best. I wish I knew the reason that when I post my rollout results, the confidence % is absent.
