1. Its always been a popularity contest; so tell me how has it improved?
If u look the list before 6 years knowing that Sander was cleary best in the world he was voted something as 33 or so
2. Its a popularity contest so why even bother with a database of PR's?
Problem is that there is no real criteria and nobody say u should vote this way. Me myself i take a look on few things while voting. Of course some people vote only from what they heard of someone , does not matter if is true or not. But once u play 1 ABt in Open u have the right to vote, no matter if is in your own state and u never crossed its border so this is a problem. OF course if someone play regularly in Open division in Bulgaria, Romania, Greece and never crossed his country border he has not the right to vote
3. Its a popularity contest and most if not all have their head up their ass. i don't understand this one
4. Its easy for humans to see what is wrong with it, simply bcuz there's nothing right about it!
For now Giants list is best what bg world have, and we should respect the work of the people who made it. Of course there is room for improvement. But why don't u try to do it yourself?
5. I don't recognize a committee that fails in its duty to explore changes that may improve voting/criteria across the board. Are they susceptible to Groupthink?
Maybe the Comittee is really not about changes but still they are the ones who organise something and i respect it. Don't get me wrong i also don't like a lot of sides of the voting, criterias, point system and etc but still Giants List remains most waitted one and most respected, everyone look at it to say who is good or not(or at least 95% of the people)
6. How many Americans are on the committee? Are ccommittee members attending ABT's or other events in the US. You can see where I'm going with this I hope.
I Agree there should be someone else in it....
7. Of these 168, how many of them were informed and knowledgable about BG players on a global scale?
Not more than 30 i would guess, depends of what informed mean, for me is one thing, for u, for other ifnormed mean i heard Falafel is good or C is going to every event he should be good or there is interview with D somewhere"
8. The flaws are far from acceptable. Cashing is just one criteria. Clearly not even close for any of the 168 to cast an informed vote, IMO.
I totally agree but what do u suggest, only players like Falafel, Mochy, Michy, paul to vote? ones who travel all over the world, who are strong and can judge other's game? It is hard to tell people don't look only in cashes.... Personally i use strength in my opinion as first criteria, then cashes and then international events, if this is international event players should play internationally, not only in their country, but again once the rules accepted everybody can vote how they wishes. I personally will not vote for anyone who did not even play 1 event last 2 years, why living in the PAst???
9. Will I ever change my brand of baked Beans? Hardly, and neither will the voting of branded players. Voters must have access to the right kind of information to cast an informed vote.
First they have to want this(i mean there is no player who thing he is not well informed), second how do u suggest this to happen?
10. Rick is a great player but he hasn't travelled in 2 years; that's his true disadvantage. Or is it bcuz he's on the wrong side of the pond?
Well there are lot of examples as Rick even worst, take Jon Royset he was world champion 2003, he is great on PR scale, he travel a lot internationally, he never made top 32. There will always be cases like that cause u can't tell people how to vote.
I really thing with every year the list become more realistic than before, of course some improvements could be made. I think there should be rule of putting no more than let's say 10 countrymen.
Change of the point system, now if u appears in 1 ballot number 1 u get 32 pts, but if someone appears in 10 ballots but between 28-32 place he will be lower ranked that the one who get only 1 ballot probably from a friend.
I guess there should be also bonuses for appearing in 10, 30, 50 ballots...
And most important i think there should be relation with all federations majors ones like danes, norwegians, germans, french so Giants list can get as much as possible different votes, this way it will become more realistic with representation of more country. For sure for me is unreal not to see one norwegian, 1 swedish as they have so many stars, and seeing no new names from Denmark but only the regular ones.
I wish the organisation good luck and i'm sure with time they will improve the list. We should respect the job they are doing for all of us, cause if it was so bad nobody will care to comment it here or anywhere but Giants is always number 1 news for BG at least for months.
