In general, you'd look at how easy it is going forward, and how easy it is to play the backgame. Here you have a weak backgame formation, and if you hit, you may pick up two more blots and form a counterprime. White has a good block against the three checkers on the 24, which would be an argument for playing it as a backgame, but the potential of winning going forward is relatively good because of the blots, so go for it.

Also, if you play this as a backgame you will have some immediate difficulties - 21/16 allows White to hit and clear points and create spares with a tempo.
