Bonus question: Is his response correct at any score? lol. That's really one advantage to playing the weaker two down openings (like 52D & 54D), often the replies are fubared. Here is one of countless examples, 13/9 6/5 no other choice for me at any score!

As for your play, I think the two has to be played 13/11. That only leaves whether I want to be super cute and play 6/5, which does have a lot of duplication & distraction involved in it, or the more normal looking 24/23.

I say play normal. You have control of the five point, give yourself a few turns you're likely to make it naturally.
