White is Malcolm Davis
score: 0
pip: 3211 point match pip: 45
score: 0
Blue is Neil KazarossXGID=aBBCBBB-----------------g-:1:1:1:32:0:0:0:11:10 Blue to play 32 If Blue plays safe this time, say, by lifting his 6pt, and and then White enters, the game will be very much up in the air. But the same thing is true when Blue rips a checker off the 3pt, playing 6/4 3/off, and then White enters. White would be the favorite, but Blue would still have plenty of chances.
Now compare the same plays when White dances. Ripping a checker is much stronger, because it gives Blue a super-efficient double. The position cleans up nicely, as well. After the alternative, “safe” play, 6/4 6/3, Blue does not quite have a double.
Another choice, ripping two checkers, does not clean up as well. Blue’s double is much more problematic after that play.
