Suppose there was accurate data on "error rate, online performance, offline tournament performance, money performance, activity, hall of fame, etc." Suppose that everyone had access to all that data.

Then why bother with a vote? Perhaps because the point of going through the Giants of Backgammon process of distributing ballots, voting and publicizing every two years is not to come up with an objective list of the world's best players?
