I agree that the race requires you to hit. If you don't hit, White either escapes, or comes out and you're a dog to hit, or he doesn't come out and you're going to have to smack him, probablly loose, next roll anyway.

I agree that with 6/4* you should play 13/9 which gives fewer returns than 12/8 and a ton more ways to make a 4-prime than 10/6.

I disagree about the cube and surely don't mind taking one here. White's not a favorite to hit and you'll have some hitting returns on some of White's hits. After 13/9 you're missed 19/36 of the time and win most of those and win a few of the times that you get hit, so you're probably a very slight undergod to win the game. You get gammoned some, true. But your position could also be invincible just two rolls from now.
