Bob,

Player A would have a rating of 2.32.

Player B would have a rating of 2.00.

Player B has 20 points over 10 tournaments in just a single year. That's where the 2.00 comes from ... 20/10 = 2.00.

Player A's average points/T in 2012 is also 2.00. The average points/T in 2008 is 5.00 (30/6). 2012 carries a weight of 5; 2008 carries a weight of 1. However, the number of Ts also has to be factored. Player A played 10 times in 2012, so the weight of 2012 overall is 5 x 10 = 50. In 2008 there were only 6 Ts, so that overall weight is 1 x 6 = 6.

((50 x 2.00) + (5 x 5.00)) = 2.32

That's the scheme that I advocate.
