I start with 8/3(2). Then 21/16(2) is the obvious play, cleaning up the blot and reducing gammon losses. It does however reduce contact, which is anti-thematic since we're behind in the race. Still, White does have two outfield points to clear and not too much time to do so.

If we keep contact with 8/3(4) or 13/3(2), then White hits and covers with 65 64 55 52 42, with some serious gammon danger. White doesn't have that many bad rolls; 51 43 41 I guess, but even those are not unsurvivable.

I would try 21/16(2) 8/3(2) even though it seems anti-thematic.

Paul, if you whoppered, you can always claim that you were mesmerized by your opponent.
