Serious Question For Stick

In Response To: +1 A Guiness record in whining Self ridicule. (Stick)

Stick wrote, "I would not recommend using 'blow the pipe' as an expression in any language but your own."

My serious question for Stick is, "Why not?" Please explain yourself, and don't just say, "Next."

David Letterman has said on various occasions, "I'm not one to blow my own horn, but I would if I could..." Never could figure out how come that line always got so many laughs.
