2008 Giants list voting

In the absence of a credible worldwide rating system a la GamesGrid (even then that is likely gamed), then it seems to me one simply must use subjective criteria.

The Giants are indeed determined on who is the best bg player and are supposed to be critiqued by both tourney and cash session play, although the latter seems notoriously hard to determine for the vast bulk of voters.

Considering one poster here already said he didn't think that the two finalists of this past year's Monte Carlo WC should be considered Giants, and considering no one has seen fit to rebuke him and defend one or both of them, I'd really hate to see an automatic use of tourney results. Sometimes you really do just know that someone who placed highly in some tourneys was just a lucky bastard, while someone who got knocked out early a lot was on the wrong side of luck, either in terms of dice or pairings.
