I don’t think it matters very much, but if we roll 4, 5 or 6, I do not want to be pushing checkers from the midpoint down to the 9pt, 8pt or 7pt. Playing down now is likely to be slightly preferable. As a bonus, playing down may give us an opportunity to make the bar point later, if such should suddenly become desirable (although it isn’t now).
