If you make the 4, your 3 is 15/12. You will leave 5s and 6s for White to escape, and if you miss the shots, it will be all over. On all the other numbers, you will need to hit loose if you can to prevent the escape.

If you play 5/2* 3/2, you create 16 dancing numbers, and a further 5 numbers that enter but do not hit or escape. You leave 13 hits, and 2 numbers that escape without a hit. In the good cases, you have a 4.5 board that you can build on.

A way to look at it is that aver 15/12 5/4, you are going to hit loose next if you can. With 5/2* 3/2, you hit loose now, without giving blue an additional role to escape. 5/2* 3/2 should be clear to avoid the additional escape chances.
