In Response To: Does Stick cheat? (Stick)

I believe this will go round and round forever as no one will ever set the proper stakes and a proper challenge that all sides would deem fair and be a reasonable test to determine if Stick can play live reasonably close to the way he plays on line. How close is close? Who pays who what at what point? How long should the contest be? These things will never be resolved and it won't happen, unless.....

I do have a solution to make it happen. It's the same kind of solution I often administered when I was Chairman of the Ethics of The National Assn. of Realtor and there were disputes of commissions. Here is the solution:

First, the parties involved (in this case, it should be anyone who is willing to step forward and say that he believes Stick is not honest and who is willing to put up $20,000 to back it up--anyone, or group, that is not willing to at least do this is a coward for making accusations like this if they are not at least willing to back it up with some of their own skin). If there is such a person or group, then they, and Stick would agree to the following: together they will choose an arbitration committee of three people who are clearly known to be knowledgeable, reputable, and impartial. That committee will determine how many matches to how many points Stick needs to play, and what the average PR rating needs to be in order for Stick to be paid all or part or none of the $20,000. BEFORE the committee sets the parameters, the money will be deposited with the committee and neither party can back out of it. In addition to the $20,000 that the challenger(s) comes up with, the committee shall determine if it is also fair for Stick to come up with some money...my thought is that he should be willing to come up with about half, and that is about all that should be required...after all, if someone is sure enough of his believe that someone is a cheater to make public accusations, he should also be willing to give 2 to 1 odds.

Now, if someone had accused me of cheating, I would be delighted to get 2 to 1 odds and have my fate rest in the hands of 3 highly reputable, knowledgeable people to set the parameters.

Of course, the rub here is in the selection of the committee. I believe the choices should be made public, so it will be clear to everyone that both sides have truly chosen people above reproach, and if it turns out the two sides cannot agree on the three people, at least the world will have a sense of which of the two was "playing games" to avoid going through with the deal.

Naturally, once the committee has set the parameters and a reasonable time and place for it to take place, if either party backs out they will forfeit their rights. Also, I would think the committee would require a public apology from the accuser if Stick is successful. If Stick is not successful, as we all know, that would not necessarily mean he was guilty of cheating, but he is certainly risking somewhat of a cloud on his reputation.

So, one side suggests he cheats on line, and here, Stick says bring it on. Here's a way to do that. What we need now is an accuser, with money to step forward, or for Stick to say that if the accuser does step forward, he would agree to the above (or if not, state what he would agree to).
