After playing the 55 you'll only be down 6 pips, so there is less concern about being behind in the race.

I believe that the best play here is attacking with Bar/15 20/15(2), reestablishing some outfield control and putting checkers where they are needed. This gives more flexibility than some other candidates like Bar/5, which leaves white with lots of outfield room to maneuver or 8/3(2) 6/1(2) which just ends up taking checkers out of play needlessly.
