Legal moves only at Novi 2012?

I knew everyone would jump on Ben for posting this and I'm somewhere in the middle. Specifically to Daniel and UBK "Nothing wrong about following the rules." I have to disagree. Just because something is a rule does not always mean it is to be followed.
The first example that comes to mind is a couple of tennis rules. This is competitive tennis, at least as serious and competitive as I'd take any backgammon ABT event, and the rules are clear for things like a hinder. For example, if your opponent(s) talk when the ball is coming towards you and it 'bothers you' you can take the point. Another hinder is if someone is wearing a hat and it comes off during the point or if a ball pops out of their pocket during play. In all of these situations you can claim the point immediately (though there should be a warning giving) yet you'd have to be pretty low on the chain to actually enforce this.
There are laws that are laws but if they were enforced on you you'd be irate. A law is more than a petty 'rule' for a backgammon tournament isn't it? If I got a ticket for jaywalking or for riding their skateboard in the city limits after dark and were really doing no harm wouldn't you toss up your hands and go 'Really!?'
To me correcting an illegal play isn't even a thought. I see them make an illegal play and "play something legal" spills out of my mouth no matter how bad their play was, I don't really take notice. It's how the game should be assuming the other player isn't abusing the rule or doing it on purpose. I do think those that don't agree to *legal moves* are a bit... umm... whatever, and I get more satisfaction out of beating them than someone else. (that means I might even try harder so it is to your benefit in more ways than one to play legal moves with me ;)
