To Maik: Yes, the key problem is how to account for all the different possible ways to win with a general formula. (just like the binomial formula accounts for all the possible ways to win a coin flipping tournament). Creating some loop as you mentioned is the approach I am using, but thought there may be some non-brute force approach that is possible.

To Bob: I consider the scores 40-away, 50-away to be a case where both away scores are very large and not really possible to calculate by hand. So yes, for my purpose this is already large enough.
