In 2009-10, the National Center for Education Statistics counted 30,381 U.S. public "schools with secondary grades," and 11,941 such private schools. "Secondary grades" are 9-12, so some of these schools may not be high schools, e.g., middle schools for grades 7-9.

But not tennis. Or cycling.
