The "Next" was meant for the (in my eyes trivial) "how to determine when a turn ends" kind of problems.

What amazed me in this thread was that people thought the diffeicult part was moving from still images to video, not the position recognition in itself.

I haven't worked directly with computer vision or image pattern recognition directly myself, I have colleagues however that have worked on such projects. For me personally it would take a big time-investment to dig into. But I'm confident from the "tools" available, with some clever thinking, this is doable.

Last time I mentioned the idea here, everyone's response was more or less "cannot be done, will never happen". See how far this has moved, in just about a year! Things develop pretty fast in this area, and people's perception of what's doable also changes very fast.

My friend hasn't worked a bit on this project since last time we discussed, unfortunately. Hasn't had the time nor the incentive/interest to prioritize it.

Google Goggles has come around, offering different sorts of image recognition. I think it solves Sodokus and plays chess by image?

Why don't USBGF contact google, and convince them of the brilliant idea of investing some time and money in our game, becoming the main sponsor of this, and produce the software for it - as part of Google Goggles or just as a stand alone custom application :-)
