Somehow it is more exciting to watch DMP as end of a 25-pt match than as end of a 3 point match.
I agree. But it is more exciting to watch start of 3pt match than start of 25pt match ;)
And it would be the same excitement to watch DMP in fifth set after 2-2 in sets and total of 4 hours of play, just as it is after 4 hours of play in 25pt match.
If there was a tennis match format where the winner is the first one who collect 100 points, watching the match when the result is 95-95 would be very interesting, just as the end of 25pt backgammon match.
Watching at 0-0, 5-0, 10-1, 15-5, 20-8, 23-15, 30-25, 40-30, etc. would be boring.
One players wins 10 points in a row? So what, he's still much away from 100 points needed for win.In standard tennis format:
So you have 15-30 on his serve? Interesting!
Oh, it is 0-40 on your serve? Interesting!
It is tie-break of first set? Interesting!
So you took his serve and now you're leading 5-3 and you're serving? Interesting!
Which tennis match is more interesting:
4-6, 3-6, 7-6, 6-2, 6-3, or
something, something, something, something, 100-90?
You can apply the same thing on volleyball.
25-20, 17-25, 25-23, 20-25, 15-12, or
first to 150 points format - yawn, yawn, yawn, yawn, 150-117.
