I'd double an equal player because I'd overestimate gammon chances (see my post in Daniel's thread) and believe that we would win over 80% of the games. It is not directly obvious to me that it is a take, and I am also not sure that my opponent will take. I'd double an equal opponent quickly OTB because I am pretty sure that in a practical sense the double cannot be wrong.
I'd take against an equal player because of the recube vig and the gammoncide that I could commit, but would take a lot longer to decide. I'd waive my hand a bit to assess a take point, making the simplifying assumptions that all my wins would be after returning the cube, and same for half of my losses. I think that would be a bit conservative, in that it would mean being very aggressive with the cube.
Against a weaker player I would not cube because I don't want to put too many points at stake in a low-skill shoot-out especially with the match lead.
