Die lands on it's corner

It is sad, but true, that many players reach for a seemingly cocked die ('dice' generally in UK, though not in UK bg) before checking with their opponenet, and more specifically, before it is far from certain that it has come to rest anyway.

I have seen many a die appear to come to rest at an angle then, a second or two later, it shifts and lands flat. Some players will not wait even a second or two. To me, the dice are almost sacred, and we should be very circumspect in how we handle them. Of course, that is in an ideal world; in a tournament in particular, with unfamiliar players, I want to get on with people, so will generally not mention such things, or not forcefully. I think that being able to voice such things in a way that does not offend or upset some players is a considerable diplomatic skill, and one I'd love to have. Alternatively, I wish I was one of those who, when sure that they're right, DGAS whether the opponent gets upset or not! (Like when they don't shake, or the dice leave the cup quite seperately, as other examples.)

I do remember, in a heads up session a decade ago, how my opponent snatched a die that had seemingly come to rest against the bar. It had been there for less than a second, was at a precarious angle, and the other die was not what he wanted. There was a real chance that it could have shifted, and I immediately objected. We had a bitter debate for TEN minutes! He is someone who is prone to getting agitated and, back then, to some degree, so was I. Eventually he - quite rightly in my opininion - acceded, and I was allowed to decide whether the other die stood. In his impatience in trying to save a second or two, we had lost 600!
