Definition of the Best

Many questions comes to my mind everyday but there is one that has been dancing around my head lately .

WHO IS THE BEST ?

Since a couple of years I've been hearing that Falafel is the best ....everybody fills their mouthes talking about Falafel this and Falafel that.. So to answer this question we must first reach to the very bottom of the meaning of "DA BEST ".

We can say that the best player is the one who performs during a certain amount of time and space with the least error rate.I think that this would be the usual answer mostly . For exmple : from 1970 to 1980 the best was Paul Magriel because during those last ten years he was the player who played more perfect (just an example)

I think its naive to believe such a thing and I believe that the very best is the one who has the ability to get 1st places,2nd places and 3rds and 4rth places within a logical amount of time.

In order to the Best you have to win first,It doesnt matter whats your error rate is if you dont allow your self to win ...

Its Obvious that the better you play technically speaking you will have more chances to be but only if you are psicologically ready to let your self win.. when I say win I refer to achieve titles and prizes .. many times we analize performances of some winners of selected tournaments and we reach to the conclusion that technically didnt deserve to win son we blame to the nature of backgammon .

IS REALLY FALAFEL THE BEST ? OR WE NEED TO PLACE SOMEBODY ELSE THAN US TO BE IN THE 1RST PLACE JUST TO AVOID THE PRESSURE OF BEING THE BEST .

So that is where my question see its light ....

FALAFEL ITS FALAFEL OR ITS ONLY A CREATION OF A SOCIAL PHENOMENUM JUST LIKE NACK BALLARD WAS FOR TEN 10 YEARS . DOES THE BACKGAMMON COMMUNITY HAVE THE NEED TO PROCLAIM SOMEBODY ELSE TO BE CALLED THE BEST ?

Why if Falafel is the such a thing as the Best he didnt acomplished the 1rst places he should had ... How many tournaments Falafel play a year... for how many years Falafel has been playing tournaments around the world ..

Falafel is the best demostration that to play outstandingly well is not enough to be a winner,to be the best . The real winner is first the one who allows him self to win.

So my message to all is .. If your error rate is 0.00 but you dont win 2 tournaments a year just dont be so proud of your self if the international comunnity of backgammon calls you DA BEST!! BECAUSE INDEED THEY ARE TAKING YOU BY A STUPID!!!

And this is for you Falafel....you are far far away of being the best,maybe with luck you are a top 20 but if you keep beliving it it will the best for all the rest .
