Consider yourself lucky not to have to unlearn all the bad habits many of the rest of us still suffer from.

Many years ago (30 perhaps?) I read a book that in part recommended trying with 32 13/10 6/4 on the opening roll. No special score or anything, just a good aggressive move. I even tried it a lot. Stick hasn't even rolled it out, but rolled out 24/22 24/21, presumably thinking that that play is superior.

Whatever faults in Robertie's books from back then are minor compared to a lot of the serious junk that was out there.

By the way the concept of 13/10 6/4 is a good one for more awkward times later in the game and I have correctly (gnu's opinion anyway) applied that play in the occasional middlegame situation. So learning the hard way wasn't a total loss it seems.
