However, Phil does seem to have a valid point. He states that it is "one of the least effective ways to improve your game".

Considering that the initial version of TD-Gammon took 1.5 million games to learn backgammon, and newer nets probably took more games, he got the "effective" part right I suppose?

For my part at least, I don't have the patience of playing 1.5 million games to lower my PR a couple of notches ;-)
