8/5* is the natural 3, but it gives our opponent a whole lot of return shots in a position where we're ahead in the race. 24/22 16/13 looks ugly but it is safe, and Magriel's criteria seem to point to safe play here. Other possibilities are 16/14 13/10 or 16/11. They don't seem better to me than hitting.

I'll try 24/22 16/13.
