Hitting was so clear to me because now the opponent can't do everything at once. They want to hit you back and they want to cover their own 5pt. (and they want to anchor up) Being on the bar makes it so they can't accomplish both of those goals unless they luckbox a doublet. If they hit you, no big deal, you have blots galore to shoot at. If they make their 5pt now you can consolidate.

That's the short of the long of it. Making the 4pt allows them too much freedom.
