My technique in similar positions is:

With a slotted high point, I would

1. Bring more wood in the fight for the 4 point and cover the outfield in the cases where she enters and gets out.

2. Keep the back checkers as long as possible before covering the 4 in order to prevent him from moving with small doubles.

3. Move only the front checker until it ideally reaches 6 away from the target (4 point here). Then move the other holding checkers as needed.

4. See how her rolls break down. Are there some jokers or anti-jokers to reckon with.

With a clock, I would instantly leap with the hitter.
