I have had major differences with Leonardo Jerkovic before, particularly on the running and direction of the IIBGF, so much so that I eventually felt compelled to resign my role as joint Director.

Despite these differences, it was and is obvious to me that he as dedicated, some might say sacrificed, an incredible large part of his recent life, organising numerous well run tournaments for the pleasure of a massive number of players in the backgammon community. As he never charged fees, all this was his gift to the players. I would think he probably spent at least 40 hours a week in this dedication, when sensibly perhaps he should have spent the time trying to find a good job suited to his talents. I also believe that this extreme dedication has been the cause of recent and significant health problems.

In summary, I find it impossible to believe that Leonardo Jerkovic has acted in a calculating corrupt manner to extract some benefit from the backgammon community – this is just not in his character. However, it is possible that extremely desperate circumstances may have compelled desperate action. I think this may be true of many of us given extreme extenuating circumstances.
