It's not clear to me which of the two plays is the bolder one. They both give White a lot of shots. As I said in my response, in the original position, 22/16 strikes me as the play that does the most to "put your checkers where you want them."

Chuck's progression illustrates to me that if you put Blue further and further back in the race, then keeping the last checker back gains in value, and improving the distribution of the checkers from the 13pt forwards also gains in value.
