Choosing to ignore a couple other idioms..

Use all 15 checkers against one
Don't attack deep within your home board if you don't have the ammunition to back it up and when you are behind in the race
Make more DMP-ish plays and less mutually-gammon-ish plays when you are leading

The problem is looking at this as some kind of "safe vs. bold" criteria when you should be looking at it as how do you want to win the game. The answer is that you win the game by making a prime (in particular, making the 7pt), not by blitzing. If you get hit back on the 2pt it rips away key builders to make the prime, and if you get missed you still have a lingering liability on the 2pt.
