I'm not sure your analysis really explains what's going on in this position. When you say that the way to win the game is to prime and not blitz, I'd respond by saying that sure, at DMP I'd run. But would you run at gammon go? It seems to me that a significant part of the story is that Blue apparently can't stave off the cube often enough to reap the benefit of the gammons that hitting "ought" to produce.
