I get this. According to Trice, “Nice positions waste 7 pips.” When you subtract 7 from the EPC, you arrive at a base that should be appropriate for the “nice” positions used in the formulas.

(By the way, my article Ideal Racing Positions enumerates every “nice” position there is, and gives the EPC for each. You can verify Trice’s assertion by simply scanning down the pip-count and EPC columns. Of course, is also includes a few not-so-nice positions that are “optimal,” but where Trice’s rule breaks down.)

3) if it is pip vs roll take one pip away from leader and if roll vs roll take 2 pips away from leader.

Does this come from Trice, or is it perhaps your own?
