In Response To: Free Lesson - 5pt Match v. XGR+ (Stick)

I enjoyed both the matches.

I thought the recap was the most valuable part, not for anything in particular you said, but for the process you use for review. For example, based on your suggestion, I have been more diligent about reviewing every move in my matches, not just those flagged as errors. Others have recommended this, but I found it easy to be lazy.

What would make the review even more valuable would be for you to take the errors and illustrate the process by which one might learn from them. For example, bring up another instance of XG and change the score ("Oh, I made the right $ play, but at this score I was risking too many gammons") or move some checkers around ("I split when XG had too many checkers in the zone. Move one back to the midpoint and my play is correct.").

It's great to present a match and discuss your thinking as you play it. But it would be even more useful to share your experience on how best to use XG to reduce one's errors. That would let us improve our use of XG as we review our own matches.

If you did that in depth for one or two plays, I think many would find it quite useful.
