1)principal: first or highest in rank, importance, value, etc.; chief; foremost. adj.
2)principal: the head or director of a school. noun
3)principal: Finance a capital sum, as distinguished from interest or profit. noun
4)principle: a fundamental, primary, or general law or truth. noun
Hmmmm, that seems like it, although there are lots of definitions of principal other than what I outlined. With principle they all seem like the same damn definition.
I guess the principle I should derive from this is not to look up both to decide which is the spelling I am looking for, but rather to see if one of them has only one real definition.
With any luck I'll remember it now. Thanks.
