In Response To: Status of NY Ace Point Club ? (Hardy Hübener)

Once upon a time, there was a backgammon club in New York City called the Ace Point Club. Backgammon is an exciting game but in the minds of many can hardly compare to no-limit poker, which you could also find at the Ace Point Club back in 2004 and 2005. There's just one problem with running a poker game for profit in New York City: it's illegal. And the cops keep shutting the card rooms down -- if the robbers don't get there first.

The Ace Point was on the 5th floor at 328 East 61st Street, a very exciting and not inexpensive location. A realtor's webpage of "hot properties" from February 2006 included this fine offer:

328 East 61st Street. 2,850 square feet. Price ($/sf/yr): $33.50 Description: Private floor with elevator that can be locked off for total security and privacy.

"Total security and privacy" notwithstanding, in June of this year the "National Card Room" which had opened in January on the 3rd floor at 328 East 61st Street was robbed for the second time:

New York, New York, the city that never sleeps. Just two days ago down at 251 Fifth Avenue near 28th Street:

Stevens Professor Killed in Poker Club Heist

"The robbers, one of whom used to play at the club, entered the poker club by force and took money from nearly the 100 players who were there last night. One of the gunmen dropped his shotgun, and mistakenly fired his handgun as he reached down for it, hitting Desena."

If the backgammon club was still open, at some location, and I knew where it was, would I tell you? If you knew where it was, would you go?
