That were a series of similar positions in Kit's OLM a few months back. Maybe someone has a good enough filing system to recover these positions. Giuliano gives the main idea - the race is close enough, and the timing for a 3-point game bad enough, that the combination of a stronger board and home board blot of black makes stepping up correct.
