For me it's sheer laziness. Being raised in the British school system instilled in me a great understanding of grammar and I have always naturally spelt words I have never heard before. Yeah, I'm a geek who still occasionally reads the dictionary for fun. Hush now.

So ur sorta rite stick about online...for sum...praps more the americans. *grin

I have had pet peeves myself. I have been really affected by the effect of people's misuse of 'effect' and 'affect'. That's just one that has bothered me; there are several more! This one just makes me cringe the most. I think it's an ego thing, so I'm working on releasing the discomfort. At least I no longer feel the need to correct people and I now smile about it when I see it. Believe me, that's an improvement!
