Let me guess. This guys interest in the "backgammon million" was not the gammon part.
What do you think it was?
Stephen Pearson has a passion for the game and back around 2006 wanted to help commercialize the game by creating a million-dollar event in The Bahamas, which was actually held with total success in January of 2007 at the Atlantis Resort and filmed for television. The event paid out something like $1.28 million and was attended by 120 players, including 25 or 26 then Giants of Backgammon, various former World Champions, and many other great international players.
That's quite an accomplishment since two or three times before that, other backgammon promoters had tried to organize million-dollar events and failed.
If you want to know more about Mr. Pearson's interest in the game, he was interviewed at this link: http://www.gammonlife.com/spearsonint.htm
And by the way, Mr. Pearson does need you to feel sorry for him. On the other hand, us players should feel sorry because such a potentially wonderful event will now, not take place.
