Pressure in Backgammon

I was digging at Adam really, but you ask a good question nonetheless.
I think that perhaps the clock adds pressure for some, however, in many ways it actually makes the pressure lessen (if that makes sense). You get a predefined time to make your plays, and you can quickly decide whether its worth debating a play in one position over another, so it makes your decision tree faster, however, also timeboxes you at other decision points - which can be a good thing. Think 'I dont know which of these moves to make, but I dont have much time to do it. Ah well, play A looks good'. All along in that scenario, the difference between the plays is likely to be smallish, and one will be marginally better than the other - it makes that decision less painful.
I dont know really what else to say in that arena. Ask Jason Lee - I am certain he will have an opinion that is more detailed than mine.
