Is having clocks be mandatory MORE important than losing older players that cannot play competitively while also worrying about the clock...Larry Liebster has been a great sport even though losing at least twice in matches from running out of time. For him , losing is preferable to not being able to participate. As a director i think that is wrong.

Larry Liebster himself wrote in an editorial in Chicago Point not long ago that he believes backgammon tournaments should be clocked.

Larry is the only person who has lost a match on time to me. He played about three games (not short ones, either) with under thirty seconds of reserve time, and did so without much trouble -- he was given additional delay time, something I readily agreed to (I received the same additional time).

He lost the match because he played unreasonably slowly early in the match. The nine point match took over two and a half hours to play, and it did not actually get finished, and Larry played very quickly in the final three games (out of necessity).
