The Japan open qualifier is filling up and we will have 16 before it's done. In the first round they were short of players to start, so although I'm not playing in the tournament because of my directing responsibilities, I figured I could play a quick 7 point match, get knocked out quickly and go back to direction.

I drew Kit and got lucky and won and was about to play Carter who was about to beat Jeremy when a funny thing happened and Jeremy made a miracle come back and won. But Jeremy could not overcome my good dice and my little jaunt is turning into a journey that might have me end up in Tokyo!

There was a fascinating position and cube with Kit, and I made a video of it on the USBGF Facebook page: http//www.facebook.com/usbgf.

By the way, there are lots of videos and interesting posts on that site, and whether you are a member or not please visit the page at least once and click "like" so that we can show more traffic to the site which is encouraging to potential sponsors for tournaments and programs.

Overall, though directing is a lot of work, and Tobias is doing the heavy lifting, it's really rewarding because the players are all so friendly and cooperative and take everything in stride and there's a lot of support from the local players and help from the likes of Ted Chee and Ken Bame....it's a wonderful atmosphere here in San Francisco and I hope there will be lots of tournaments in the future.
