It is one of the reasons the one hand argument is silly, but a strong one.

In the case of backgammon, if it would be common for BG players to end a session after one game, a one game assessment would be more reasonable (it would still feel wrong, but it is more difficult to argue why it is wrong). But of course that is not how the game is played, so you'd take longer sessions with repeat sessions into account.
