If White plays bar/17*, 15/36 returns hit the slot on the bar point and another 6/36 returns hit the blot on the 17 point. Even so, I'd play bar/17* instead of making the prime. After bar/23 13/17, 21/36 numbers make Brown's 9 point (1's 2's and 4-4), some other numbers attack, some 6's come out 6-5 makes a 5-prime, and the rest just lift and shift. Having to lift the 9 point slot isn't great but there don't seem to be any really bad returns. The other big problem with priming is that White has 2 checkers out of play and 2 checkers back, so unless White can run from the 23 point next turn (or anchor with 2-1 or 1-1), he has only the one spare on the 8 point to play freely. White's in serious danger of losing the prime even if Brown rolls indifferently, and a blitz or a loose hit with the 8 point spare won't work since Brown is anchored.
