OTB I was happy to be able to make the 9 point, which is in fact a blunder. I am not afraid of getting hit, but it seems I should prevent my opp from making his barpoint. Hitting and continuing to the mid is best. I can see that this play gives me good chances to make outfield points later. Opp is playing a backgame with bad timing, but since I don't have my 5 point yet, it could change to a holding game or an attack of his any minute. I guess he would happily attack a remaining checker on his 3 point, if I run one of the guys. My hitting now deprives him of attacking opportunities as well as of chances to make outfield points. Also, he might be forced to leave the mid soon if he rolls awkwardly. After hitting, other plays than going all the way look too blotty.
I am still not sure that I have fully understood this position. So if you have any further explanation, I'd be interested to hear it.
